GDA is a premier academy that offers a variety of programs for people interested in expanding their education about dogs.  The founders of Good Dog Academy have over 40 years of combined experience and have used their extensive knowledge to create a variety of programs that produce the most educated professionals in the industry.

In addition to educating Professional Dog Trainers, we have now developed programs for:

  • people who work within the dog industry and want to broaden their knowledge
  • people who would like to start their own business within the dog industry

What programs do you offer?

What will I learn in your program if I work within the dog industry and want to broaden my knowledge?

Whether you work in a doggy daycare, boarding facility, grooming salon, pet store, or if you are a dog walker, volunteer or work at a shelter or with a rescue organization - this 13 course program is for you.  Our Dog Care Provider Certificate program is full of information that will help you on a daily basis and is made up of the following courses:

If your goal is to open your own business, this program is for you.  Have you ever thought about being a dog walker, offering in-home boarding and/or doggy daycare on a part-time basis?  Would you like to start a full-time business in this expanding and ever growing industry?  These opportunities begin with education.  This 18 course program gives you the essentials to start your journey and includes the following courses:

What will I learn in your Professional Dog Trainer Certificate program?

If you want to train dogs and the people who love them, this Certificate is what you need.  Content is based on our tried and true program that has been running for many years.  To get your Certificate, you will need to complete 23 theory courses as well as the Basic and Intermediate Obedience practical courses. Theory courses include quizzes with a Final Test and the practical courses include submitting recordings of your work with your dog.  You will want to take this program if starting your career as a Professional Dog Trainer is your goal.

Professional Dog Trainer Certificate Program - Practical courses
Total time to complete this program is approximately 45 - 50 hours.

  • Basic Obedience 1 -6
  • Intermediate Obedience 1 - 6

What is the difference between a Master Dog Trainer and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer?

In North America there is no difference between a Master Dog Trainer and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer.  The title reflects the name the school has chosen for their certificate program.


What will I receive after taking your program?

When you graduate from our Professional Dog Trainer Certificate program, you will receive a Professional Dog Trainer Certificate.
When you graduate from our Dog Care Provider Certificate program, you will receive a Dog Care Provider Certificate.
When you graduate from our Dog Industry Entrepreneur Certificate program, you will receive a Dog Industry Entrepreneur Certificate.


What are the Admission requirements?

Good Dog Academy is committed to enrolling students who are likely to succeed in achieving their education and career goals.

Who is CCPDT and what do they stand for?

Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT)

The GDA Professional Dog Trainer curriculum was developed with the highest industry standards in mind.   We will provide you with the knowledge necessary to help you pass the CCPDT-KA exam. Please see their website for full details on all of their certifications.

How do I get started?

Steps to Your Success

  • Review the information in the Student Handbook.
  • Choose your program.
  • If you are enrolling in the Professional Dog Trainer Certificate program, decide which payment plan you would like to use - either Full Program or Course at a Time.
  • Click on Apply Now.
  • Fill in your application form.
  • Use the website cart to submit your non-refundable application fee.
  • Once your eligibility is confirmed, you will receive a welcome email with your log in credentials and further instructions. 

You have unlimited access for 24 months for  the Professional Dog Trainer Certificate program.
You have unlimited access for 12 months for both the Dog Care Provider Certificate program and the Dog Industry Entrepreneur Certificate program.

Once you log in to complete your Dogsafe™ Canine First Aid 101 eLearning course, you have two months unlimited access to complete that certificate.
