Course Outline

Training Equipment  
This course is designed to expose you to the many pieces of training equipment available.  You will learn how to properly fit and use a variety of training tools, when to use them and the pros and cons of each item.

Principles of Training
Why do you train your dog the way you do?  This course delves into popular training methods examining their pros and cons to help you determine which methodology will work in a given situation.

Dog Breeds
This course will familiarize you with dog breeds and their traits as recognized by popular kennel clubs.

Selecting a Dog
Selecting a dog is one of the most important decisions a pet owner can make.  Unfortunately, it is often one of the least informed decisions. This course will teach you how to choose a good canine companion.

Canine Language
The world of Canine Language is both complex and fascinating.   In any given dog interaction, a dog may be telling a very detailed story about how they feel or what they want.   Understanding what our canine counterparts are trying to communicate is crucial to your safety and the safety of others.  This course helps you to better understand how dogs communicate and what it all means.

Today’s Canine
The start a dog gets in life plays a big role in the outcome of the adult dog.  As well, the genetic make up of a dog and whether two or more breeds are mixed, adds information about how you approach that dog’s overall training plan.   The more you know, the better you are able to understand the needs of a specific dog.

Your dog’s diet has a a significant impact on their behavior and their overall health.  This course will teach you about canine nutrition to give your dog the best chance for a long, healthy and enjoyable life.

The Physical Dog
This course teaches you about the dog's brain and senses, life cycle, general health and you will become familiar with general conformation terms.  It is surprising how much information is packed into this course!

Evolution of the Dog
Dogs have been domesticated for 15,000 years and over that time they have undergone dramatic changes.  This course will teach you about the origins of the domestic dog, diversification in the species, and how to identify dominant breed traits based on their evolution.  

Behavior Problem Solving
Problem behaviors can ruin the lives of dogs and their owners. This course will teach you how to identify and address common problem behaviors to maintain positive relationships.

Fear and Anxiety
The majority of aggressive dog behavior is driven by fear and/or anxiety. This course will teach you to identify these emotions in dogs, the role they play in canine behavior and what steps to take to minimize their impact.

Dogsafe™ Canine First Aid 101 eLearning is designed to teach you the knowledge and skills you need to deal with a sick or injured dog until veterinary care is available. The topics are covered in-depth so that students have a thorough understanding of the principles of canine first aid.  After successfully completing this course, and its test, you will receive a Dogsafe™ Canine First Aid 101 eLearning Certificate.
